  • Chasing shrinking opportunities: It’s a seller’s market today as eager buyers drive up prices by chasing a limited number of opportunities. Buyers and sellers need to understand how businesses are valued.
  • Rising interest rates: Economic conditions have a huge impact on M&A markets, and interest rates are a key component of those conditions. A product of government decisions, interest rates are rising in an effort to curb rampant inflation, making it more expensive to borrow money for an acquisition. If all other factors remain consistent, rising interest rates should lead to lower multiples paid by buyers.
