Rebecca Kanter Discusses Self-Advocacy as a Tool for Success

Rebecca Kanter, principal in Much’s Corporate & Finance group, interviewed with Law.com for its “How I Made Partner” series, featuring in-depth conversations with recently elevated partners to discuss their journeys to success.

Kanter emphasized the role her family played during her path to partnership. As the first in her family to attend law school, Kanter drew on her family’s strong entrepreneurial history to guide her to a like-minded firm, starting her career at Much from day one.

Kanter knew her success would be derived from authenticity. This mindset shaped her approach to self-advocacy, saying, “A few years before I became partner, I made ‘tell them’ my personal motto. I was clear about what I wanted. I asked a lot of questions. I took people to lunch to ask questions but also ‘tell them’ what I wanted for my future. It’s important to voice what you want and to be your own advocate.”
