Patrick is an accomplished attorney who advises clients on a broad range of intellectual property matters with respect to patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. He also helps businesses monetize their IP through licensing, litigation, and the purchase and sale of IP assets. Additionally, Patrick has served in an outside general counsel role to dozens of companies and is often the first call clients make no matter the legal issue.

Whether his client is a multinational corporation or an entrepreneurial startup, Patrick focuses on working with decision makers to protect their inventions, distinguish their brands, and build and grow their businesses. Whatever they are facing, clients trust in Patrick’s skill for developing effective strategies that put their business goals at the forefront and position them for long-term success.

Patrick is also deeply involved in the litigation funding space. In addition to representing clients in matters backed by third-party capital, he works with funders to help them find the best opportunities for their investments.

Patrick approaches legal work with the mind of an entrepreneur and business owner. In addition to founding a law firm that he managed for over a decade, Patrick co-founded and managed two software businesses, including an AI-based medical device company in the neuromodulation, cochlear implant, and hearing aid space, and a crowdfunding platform that was named one of the 100 Brilliant Businesses of 2014 by Entrepreneur Magazine.

Patrick was an adjunct professor at the Northwestern Pritzker School of Law for five years co-teaching the NUvention Medical course. Patrick’s course focused on interdisciplinary experiential learning, walking student teams through the steps associated with bringing a medical innovation to life, spanning product innovation and development, intellectual property protection, regulatory compliance, and business development issues.

Much More Than My Work

Few things capture my imagination like music. I write, record, perform, listen, and appreciate a wide range of music. I am primarily a bass player, playing both the electric and double bass. If you are looking for a topic to break the ice with me, ask me what I’m currently listening to, playing, or about the next concert I am attending.
