Laya Dogmetchi - Much Shelist, P.C.

Vice chair of Much's Commercial Litigation group, Laya is an experienced litigator, trial lawyer, and advisor, whose practice focuses on general and complex civil litigation matters in almost every facet of the business world, including business torts, contract disputes, partnership disputes, infringement lawsuits, and employment disputes.

Laya has defended employers, corporate officers and directors, and corporate representatives in business-related lawsuits involving workplace harassment, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, defamation, business torts, breach of contract, and breach of fiduciary. Laya also has considerable knowledge and experience handling cases for common carriers and public entities, particularly in the areas of transportation, torts, compliance, property, and casualty, as well as insurance defense litigation involving personal injury, products liability, and premises liability.

Throughout her career, Laya's clients have ranged from Fortune 500 companies to government entities, to small and midsize businesses and entrepreneurs. Her experience spans several industries, including consumer packaged goods, financial services, real estate, gas and service stations, public entity common carriers, long-haul/inland marine carriers, aerospace, transportation, construction, insurance companies, insurance brokers, and nonprofit organizations.

Laya possesses a record of consistent success in motion practice and trials (both jury and non-jury).

I sit on the Board of Global Resources for Cancer Education, where I help cancer patients and their families access key information about their disease and treatment options. I have also volunteered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services in investigating endangered birds on the Big Island of Hawaii, as well as with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration investigating watershed issues in Washington.

I am a sports fanatic and have volunteered in the youth sports arena – volleyball, basketball, baseball, and soccer – for over two decades.

I also love to cook, especially Iranian food because it is so delicious and it reminds me of my childhood. I also often experience wanderlust and get the itch to run out of my house and travel the globe. Luckily, I have a large group of adventurous friends who are just as eager to trek the world with me. But, my absolute biggest and truest loves in life are my husband, my three children, and the rest of my amazing family.
