Much is pleased to announce Patrick Richards has joined the firm’s Intellectual Property group. An accomplished patent attorney, Richards is a key addition to the team as it assists clients in protecting, enforcing, and utilizing their intellectual property.
Clients call on Richards to advise them on a broad range of intellectual property matters with respect to patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets. He also helps businesses monetize their IP through licensing, litigation, and the purchase and sale of IP assets. Additionally, Patrick has served in an outside general counsel role to dozens of companies and is often the first call clients make no matter the legal issue.
Richards is also deeply involved in the litigation funding space. In addition to representing clients in matters backed by third-party capital, he works with funders to help them find the best opportunities for their investments.
“We’ve been impressed with Patrick from our initial conversations to watching him hit the ground running at Much,” said Managing Partner Courtney Mayster. “He brings decades of experience in intellectual property law, a key focus area of ours, along with a commitment to top-tier service that will be immensely valuable to our clients.”
Richards arrived at Much from another Chicago-based law firm and brings the entrepreneurial mindset of a business owner. In addition to founding a law firm that he managed for over a decade, Patrick co-founded and managed two software businesses, including an AI-based medical device company in the neuromodulation, cochlear implant, and hearing aid space, and a crowdfunding platform that was named one of the 100 Brilliant Businesses of 2014 by Entrepreneur Magazine.
