As a principal at the firm, Laya is an experienced and valued legal and business counselor whose practice focuses on complex civil litigation, business litigation, general liability defense, mass tort defense and employment-related litigation. Laya has defended employers, corporate officers and directors, and corporate representatives in business-related lawsuits involving workplace harassment, sexual harassment, wrongful termination, defamation, business torts, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary. Laya also has considerable knowledge and experience handling cases for common carriers and public entities, particularly in the areas of transportation, torts, compliance, property and casualty, as well as insurance defense litigation involving personal injury, products liability and premises liability.

Throughout her career, Laya's clients have ranged from Fortune 500 companies to government entities, to small and midsize businesses and entrepreneurs. Her experience spans several industries, including food and beverage, financial services, real estate, gas stations/service stations, public entity common carriers, long haul/inland marine carriers, aerospace, transportation, construction, insurance companies, insurance brokers and nonprofit organizations.

Laya possesses a record of consistent success in motion practice and trials (both jury and non-jury).

Laya sits on the Board of Directors of the Global Resource for Advancing Cancer Education where she helps cancer patients and their families access key information about their disease and treatment options. She also has worked with the South Royalton Legal Clinic to provide pro bono services for indigent clients.

Additionally, Laya has served as a board member for the CDM Girls Volleyball Foundation and AYSO Region 57. She has volunteered with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service investigating endangered birds as well as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration investigating watershed issues.
