Ian is a real estate attorney who counsels clients on commercial transactions. He represents the full range of real estate players, including buyers, sellers, investors, owners, landlords, tenants, lending institutions, and real estate investment trusts. Clients call on Ian to advise on acquisitions, dispositions, and debt and equity financings, as well as development, construction, and leasing matters.

Ian drafts and negotiates asset purchase, operations transfer, equity purchase, option, commercial lease, and license agreements. He strategically guides clients through the project life cycle, from document drafts and negotiations through diligence, title and survey review, entity and equity structuring, financing, and deal close.

After law school, Ian spent several years working at a leading real estate product design firm where he advised investment managers on business strategy, competitive positioning, and risk management. In this role, he created and redesigned funds for three of the world's largest real estate managers, advising on geographic focus, property type, leverage ratio, and target returns and fees that best suited institutional investors and market demand.

Much More Than My Work

I am an active volunteer with I Grow Chicago, where I mentor and tutor children at the Peace House in Chicago’s Englewood community.

During the NBA season, I am likely standing in front of a TV, watching a Chicago Bulls game. I have been going to games since the days of Chicago Stadium and am confident this is the year we bring home our next championship.
