Afton advises high-net-worth individuals, entrepreneurs, families, and financial institutions on the full spectrum of estate planning. With 25 years in the trust and estate field, Afton brings a confident, long-term perspective to wealth preservation, one grounded in experience and a focus on what matters most for future generations.
Afton takes pride in building meaningful relationships with her clients from the very start of the planning process. That foundation shapes the counsel she provides at every stage, from designing and implementing comprehensive tax planning strategies and estate plans through navigating the full administration process, including corporate succession planning and governance.
Afton represents both fiduciaries and beneficiaries in the context of trust administration and charitable administration. When disputes arise, she is a steadfast advocate for her clients in contested estate and trust proceedings. Afton has successfully negotiated family settlements, even after those matters had languished for years of administration.
Afton is actively involved in the broader estate planning community, serving as vice chair of the Chicago Bar Association’s Trust Law Committee and as a member of the Chicago Estate Planning Council’s Board of Directors. She has lectured to the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education (IICLE) and various bar associations on digital assets in estate planning, planning with insurance trusts, updates to Illinois law, and retirement planning. On the writing side, Afton most recently co-authored the "Estate Planning and Retirement Planning" chapter of Estate Planning Forms and Commentary: Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts 2025 Edition, a handbook published by IICLE.
