Much Shelist Guides Lakeshore Recycling Systems in Recent Acquisitions

Much Shelist's Corporate & Finance and Real Estate Law practice groups recently represented Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) in its simultaneous acquisition of six separate entities.

Serving the Chicagoland market for two decades, LRS provides recycling and waste diversion programs to businesses and residential homeowners. As a result of the acquisitions, our client is now Illinois' largest private waste company and its second largest portable toilet business. According to LRS, "the collective companies will now control nearly 20% of the Chicagoland roll-off market. Further, the acquisition increases the amount of inbound waste under its control to nearly 2.2 million tons per year."

"These acquisitions strengthen our operations, service footprint and future growth plans. We are grateful for Much Shelist’s guidance and counsel during such an important time in our company’s history," said LRS Chief Executive Officer Alan T. Handley.

Mitchell Roth added, “We appreciate the opportunity to participate in this multi-transaction deal that exemplifies our capabilities as dealmakers and business advisors. As long-term partners of Lakeshore Recycling Systems, we are proud to support their continued momentum in the marketplace: creating jobs, expanding geographic reach and forging relationships with new customers. We look forward to the years of partnership ahead and helping Alan and the principals of LRS achieve new heights.”

In addition to Mitchell, the transaction team included Pat Brennan, Harold Dembo, David Schmidt, Steve Schwartz, Christopher Walker and Ed Walsh. The deal closed on January 4, 2017. Much Shelist previously represented LRS in the acquisition of Heartland Recycling, Inc. and C&D Recycling. The firm also assists LRS with strategic real estate and facility expansion, equipment acquisition and financing, as well as general day-to-day legal needs.
