Much Shelist Advises Lakeshore Recycling Systems in Recapitalization by Goldman Sachs

Much Shelist's Corporate & Finance group recently served as legal counsel for Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS) during its recapitalization by Goldman Sachs Private Capital Investing and Maple Partners. The investment caps off a year of significant growth for LRS and will enable the private waste company to further develop its programs and geographic reach.

"We are delighted that Goldman Sachs invested in LRS as it allows us the ability to grow and expand our service offerings in both Illinois and throughout the Midwest more broadly," said LRS Chief Executive Officer Alan T. Handley.

The Much Shelist transaction team included Mitchell Roth, Steve Schwartz, David Schmidt and Christopher Walker, all members of the firm's Corporate & Finance group. Our attorneys conducted separate negotiations on behalf of LRS with select buyers and equity investors, coordinating our efforts with LRS's financial advisor, William Blair & Co. We also provided general and transactional counsel with respect to multiple possible financing and other strategic alternatives, including debt restructuring, cash-out equity refinancing and sale of the company.

Much Shelist has served as counsel to LRS in a variety of transactions over the past several years. In January 2017, the firm assisted LRS in its simultaneous acquisition of six entities, making our client the largest private waste company in Illinois. The firm also counsels LRS regarding other acquisition opportunities, strategic real estate and facility expansion, equipment acquisition and financing, as well as general legal needs.
