
Overview
Scott advises real estate funds, private and public companies on a full range of commercial real estate matters and business transactions, including the buying, selling and leasing of all classes of commercial properties. He represents several investment funds in the acquisition, leasing and disposition of industrial properties. He has also worked with many businesses in the relocation, expansion or consolidation of their facilities, including new development and rehabilitation projects.
Scott has structured numerous, sophisticated forward and reverse 1031 tax-deferred exchanges and tenancy in common arrangements. He represents banks and other financial institutions in real estate financing transactions, including conventional, construction, permanent and participation mortgage lending. He also provides advice regarding workouts and debt restructuring to numerous banks. He has assisted banks in the liquidation of acquired assets subject to loss-share arrangements.
Scott represents businesses seeking commercial and industrial real estate tax incentives from the Cook County Assessor under the Cook County Real Property Assessment Classification Ordinance, including municipal authorizations, tax analyses and all other aspects of the real estate tax assessment process.
Scott has spoken to a variety of groups on the topic of tax-deferred exchanges. He also has authored articles for Real Estate Chicago. While in law school, he was Associate Editor of the Urban Law Annual.
Scott is a past member of the firm’s Management Committee.

Scott provides pro bono legal representation through the JUF Community Legal Services Program. He also has volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House and is a founding member of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center.
