David T. Brown
David is an accomplished attorney who counsels public companies and closely held businesses on complex matters, including strategic planning, talent development, acquisitions and dispositions, private placements of debt and equity, and tax and entity structures. He also serves as chairman of Much and is actively involved in strategic planning and leadership development for the firm. Prior to his appointment as chairman, David served as chair of the firm’s management committee for 13 years.
David represents institutional lenders in virtually all aspects of commercial real estate and corporate loan and workout transactions. He also represents a number of commercial real estate firms, assisting them with the acquisition, development and financing of real estate projects and advising them on routinely encountered legal and business issues.
David is a regular speaker and writer on a broad range of topics (including business planning and succession, and the business aspects of the legal profession) and has received a number of awards from the legal, business and philanthropic communities

David is the incoming National Campaign chair for the Jewish Federations of North America (JFNA). He is also a member of the organization's Executive Committee and chair of the Jewish Community Relations Council/Jewish Council for Public Affairs Task Force, which examines Jewish community relations in the United States. Previously, David was a member of JFNA's Board of Trustees and served as chair of the Human Services and Public Policy Council, where he worked closely with JFNA's Washington, D.C. office and lay leadership throughout the United States on health and long-term care issues, as well as disability and tax policies. Additionally, David is past chair of JFNA's Global Operations: Israel and Overseas Council.
David is an active board member of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago (JUF) and past chairman of its board of directors. David has also held multiple positions within JUF: chair of the Overall Planning and Allocations Committee (OPAC); End of the Year chair for the 2004 and 2008 campaigns; chair of the Government Affairs Committee, where he presented JUF’s position on important policy issues to government officials in Washington, D.C. and Springfield, IL; and president of the Young Leadership Division. David received JUF’s Young Leadership Award in 1993 and the Julius Rosenwald Memorial Award, the organization's highest honor, in 2016.
David serves on the board of directors for BBYO. He is also active in AIPAC and is a regular visitor to Israel. In 2017, he received the Man of the Year Award for Outstanding Leadership and Service from Jewish fraternity Zeta Beta Tau.
David is a member of the Economic Club of Chicago and serves as Learning Officer of the YPO Gold Chicago Chapter. He has run the Chicago Marathon 11 times on behalf of the American Liver Foundation, the American Cancer Society and, most recently, JUF.
The David T. Brown Community Service Award was established in 2012 in recognition of David’s ongoing commitment to philanthropy. The annual award honors a Much staff member and attorney for ongoing dedication to the community and includes a $2,500 donation to each recipient’s charitable organization of choice.
