Morrie Much, co-founder of our firm, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. His friends and colleagues at Much Shelist and in the legal and business communities will miss him dearly, but the indelible mark he left on our firm will be remembered forever.
After exploring different opportunities to use his business acumen, Morrie decided to pursue his legal education at the University of Chicago Law School. He then launched his career advising companies and individuals in virtually all aspects of commercial real estate and tax shelter transactions. In 1970, he joined forces with his friend and partner Michael Shelist, and together, they founded Much Shelist, P.C.
Morrie built our firm on a foundation of contributing to the success of clients, giving back to the community, and maintaining a talented, performance-driven team. He cared deeply about fostering meaningful relationships, often saying that clients consider us both their lawyers and their friends. 55 years later, our leadership team continues to be driven by one of Morrie’s greatest lessons: We are strongest and serve our clients best when we remain true to our core mission and values.
Many of us had the privilege to know and work with Morrie and to learn from his selfless and charismatic leadership. And we all have the gift he left us in co-founding our firm. People have come to expect the same kindness and high standards of work that Morrie set and instilled across multiple generations of attorneys.
The Much Shelist community will always be grateful to Morrie for laying the foundation for what makes us “Much” today. We will carry his legacy forward in all that we do.
