CFPB’s Rohit Chopra Is Back, and California Is His New Bureau

Dara Tarkowski, chair of Much’s Tech Innovation, Data & Financial Regulation group, authored a column for Compliance Week about Rohit Chopra’s appointment as the inaugural secretary of the newly created Business Consumer Services Agency (BCSA). Serving at the will of California Governor Newsom, the former head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will bring a new wave of compliance and regulatory supervision to California. The BCSA will officially launch on July 1.

In her column, Tarkowski explains potential impacts of the BCSA and Chopra’s appointment. She emphasizes that tech companies should be aware that actions taken by California regulators often shape national business practices, and financial services providers routinely implement California compliant practices nationwide.
