Committed to diversity.

We know that diversity is as vital to the health of our firm as it is to the quality of service we provide. It enhances our ability to provide better solutions for our clients, fulfill our obligations as members of the bar and cultivate opportunity and professional development on an inclusive basis.

Our commitment to diversity means we foster a culture of equality and treat all people with respect. We create a safe and positive work environment. We promote the highest standards of our legal system. We assess recruitment and leadership decisions by participating in the Mansfield Rule initiative.

Much maintains a broad definition of diversity that includes race, color, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, national origin, ancestry, disability, marital status, parental status, military status, as well as differences of personal history, lifestyle and work habits.

"We strive to create diverse and inclusive teams that reflect the communities around us. And we know we have work to do to improve on our strategic diversity plan. By participating in Diversity Lab's Mansfield Rule, we aim to increase the number of diverse voices in leadership and create a more inclusive workplace."

– Mitchell Roth, Managing Partner

We are dedicated to putting in the work.

  • In 2020, Much achieved Mansfield Certified status after completing the yearlong Mansfield 3.0 certification program. As a current participant in Diversity Lab's Mansfield Rule for Midsize Law Firms initiative, we are committed to considering women, attorneys of color, attorneys with disabilities and/or LGBTQ+ attorneys for at least 30 percent of leadership and governance roles, equity partner promotions, senior lateral positions and more.
  • We encourage attorneys and staff to participate in our Diversity & Inclusion subgroups that focus on education, community outreach, recruiting and retention, internal community building, and legal developments and legislation.
  • Much regularly provides educational programming, from implicit bias training to Pride Month panels to International Women's Day celebrations. We bring in experts to help our employees expand their perspectives and kickstart change.
  • We facilitate volunteer opportunities to support professional and civic organizations that advance the interests of those who are underrepresented in the legal profession and the larger community.

The Much Women's Initiative is dedicated to the support and development of our women attorneys. Led by co-chairs Courtney Mayster and Julia Turk, the group holds regular meetings and events designed to build and strengthen relationships with clients, trusted advisors and colleagues within the firm.

The group's mission is to:

  • Provide a supportive forum to discuss issues facing women attorneys
  • Create and implement ideas and programs designed to improve the recruitment, retention, professional development, promotion and work-life harmony of the firm's women attorneys
  • Encourage experienced attorneys to mentor women associates and apprentices
  • Enhance the marketing and business generation efforts of the firm's women attorneys

Much is a founding member of the Coalition of Women's Initiatives in Law Firms and encourages membership and participation in other women's organizations such as the National Association of Women Lawyers (NAWL) and the Women's Bar Association of Illinois (WBAI).

We condemn racism. We condemn hatred. We condemn violence.

We have witnessed the continued racial inequality and social injustice in our country. There is much more work to do, and we, as a firm, must do our part.

We don't have all the answers. What we do have is a commitment from our lawyers and staff to bring about meaningful change – in our hiring, in how we choose to support our community, and in how we address inequality when we see it.

We are committed to listening, learning and improving. We choose to be inclusive and love in the face of hatred and intolerance. And we fully embrace the reality that we will be held accountable by our actions.
