Real-world experience.

Playing our part in cultivating the next generation of lawyers is a top priority at Much. Our summer associate program invites law school students to spend 10 weeks working side-by-side with attorneys in a range of practices.

Whether participants are interested in mergers and acquisitions, health care law, startups and venture capital, litigation or other areas of focus, they will kick off their careers by both "learning" and "doing."

Summer Associate Program

Our summer associate program is designed for forward-thinking, entrepreneurial attorneys looking to explore diverse areas of law through training, mentoring and shadowing. Students have the opportunity to delve into a wide variety of practices, including business and finance, litigation, real estate, labor and employment, and health care law. In addition to gaining valuable experience, participants have access to Much University, a firmwide initiative that offers CLE programs, practice-specific education and online learning.

Students are connected with both associate and partner mentors to guide them through the summer and provide substantive feedback, including two formal reviews.

The 10-week program runs from the end of May through the end of July.

We take social responsibility seriously. Summer associates are fully integrated in Much Community – after all, it's a key part of our firm culture. They work alongside attorneys on pro bono matters and participate in service projects, as well as learn about opportunities to get involved with Chicago Volunteer Legal Services and the Center for Conflict Resolution.

Firm culture is a source of pride here at Much, and summer associates are engaged in it from day one, experiencing firsthand the value of collaboration, diversity and service. Just like our attorneys and staff, summer associates benefit from a collegial work environment with a focus on teamwork. We believe it's important to enjoy your time at the office, which is a big reason we recently renovated our entire space.

Throughout the summer, students participate in social activities ranging from practice group outings to associate events to informal lunches. Whether its talking career goals with a firm leader over coffee in the Much Hub or joining partners for a networking happy hour, we make sure summer associates are fully immersed in our award-winning culture.

2020 Summer Associates

Charlotte Franklin

"I was fortunate to be paired with a partner and an associate mentor, both of whom were phenomenal and genuinely invested in my professional development. Throughout the summer, my mentors provided me with insights into the practice of law and the culture at Much. I enjoyed getting to know them as individuals, as we also discussed our interests and aspirations. I look forward to continuing what I hope will be long-lasting relationships."

– Charlotte Franklin, Northwestern Pritzker School of Law

"Much's culture is the perfect balance between nature and nurture. Young associates, including summers, are given real work from day one along with flexibility and freedom to solve assignments the way they best see fit. At the same time, partners and more experienced associates are incredibly proactive making sure we understand the complex legal issues and how to best present the consequences of our ideas to either a client or judge."

– Max Schreiber, Harvard Law School

"As a summer associate with only one year of law school under my belt, I wasn't sure how much substantive work I would receive this summer. Fortunately, the Much team trusted me. Partners and associates gave me work that touched on a variety of practice areas and truly benefited our clients."
