Description

Join the collaborative, motivated marketing team at Much Shelist as our Communications Specialist. Much is a 100-attorney, full-service law firm with offices in Chicago, IL and Newport Beach, CA. The Communications Specialist plays an integral part in the firm's strategic marketing plans and has high visibility in the firm. Primary areas of focus include managing an editorial calendar inclusive of all internal and external firm communications; writing, editing and distributing communications; driving and measuring digital content and social media engagement; assisting with legal directory rankings; and maintaining an experience database. The position of Communications Specialist is located in Chicago, Illinois and works directly with the Director of Strategy & Marketing and the Marketing Manager. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Write and distribute firm news and announcements through email, web and social media outlets.
  • Work with attorneys to produce, edit and distribute legal alerts, blog posts and thought leadership that resonate with clients and align with the firm’s marketing strategy.
  • Manage a marketing editorial and communications calendar to ensure effective and timely distribution of internal and external communications to various audiences.
  • Conceptualize and lead the firm’s digital content and market engagement efforts including but not limited to blogs, video announcements, podcasts, and social media campaigns.
  • Create and maintain website, brochure, and proposal content featuring attorney bios, practice/industry group descriptions, and representative experience.
  • Write and post internal firm communications and announcements on the firm’s intranet site.
  • Regularly track data and analyze ROI metrics to understand the success of thought leadership campaigns and digital content engagement.
  • Collect and maintain representative matters in a simple experience management system.

 Required Skills & Experience

  • 3 or more years of law firm communications experience
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with attorneys, staff and team
  • Solid understanding of law firm marketing audiences with an expertise in engaging clients with relevant, impactful information and value-added content
  • Experience managing an editorial calendar to incorporate print, digital and social communications
  • Experience creating, editing, managing and distributing blogs, podcasting, and video content
  • Team player and client service-oriented
  • Ability to succeed in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities and deadlines
  • Demonstrated project, time and expectation management skills
  • Self-starter, organized, detail-oriented and committed to work product excellence

Position:        Director of Attorney Recruitment & Professional Development

Reports to:    Managing Partner, COO & Management Committee

Status:           Exempt


Much Law is seeking a Director of Attorney Recruitment & Professional Development responsible for recruiting and developing the firm’s one hundred attorneys at every stage of their careers.  The Director will work closely with firm leaders to support the strategic growth and talent development of a growing, innovative mid-sized firm.  The position also oversees key firm initiatives including Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Much Community, Much Wellness and Much University.  

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Work with Department Chairs and firm management to identify lateral associate hiring needs and lead search process for partners, associates and contract attorneys.
  • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with recruiters; review resumes, work with candidates, set up interviews, coordinate reference checks and prepare offer letters.
  • Lead attorney onboarding and integration efforts together with firmwide Directors.
  • Manage all aspects of law school recruitment including working with law schools through OCI process. 
  • Oversee summer associate program, together with Hiring Partners, including orientation, training programs, work assignments, mentorship program and social events.
  • Manage attorney evaluation process including associate self-evaluations and partner reviews.
  • Design, implement and promote attorney professional development through mentoring, coaching and training programs to further the firm’s commitment to associate retention and growth.  
  • Provide guidance on MCLE certification and approvals for internal and external CLE programs.
  • Coordinate and promote Much University programming including skills training and CLE Programming; collaborate on Business Development training with Director of Strategy & Marketing.  
  • Identify and engage with outside consultants and trainers, as necessary, to provide programming in addition to using in-house resources.
  • Support the firm’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion goals, working together with the Diversity Co-Chairs and the Culture and Engagement Coordinator, in the implementation of the Mansfield Rule.
  • Collaborate with HR and Culture and Engagement Coordinator to promote the well-being of Attorneys and Staff.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Advanced degree, JD preferred
  • Minimum 7-10 years related experience in a law firm or related professional services firm
  • Experience with attorney recruitment for summer associate, entry-level, lateral associates and lateral partners
  • Prior professional development experience organizing training, mentorship and evaluation processes
  • Excellent analytical and creative problem-solving skills, along with impeccable attention to detail
  • Ability work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with changing/competing priorities
  • Ability to work well under pressure and maintain a positive attitude
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to build trust in working with attorneys and other professionals at all levels
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Client-service approach, along with good judgment, tact and flexibility
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a highly collaborative team 
  • Flexibility to work the hours necessary to meet varying department and client-service needs
  • Technology skills including knowledge of applicant tracking systems, evaluation, and CLE tracking software; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
