Evaluation and development.

Our attorneys are our greatest investment. Committing to attorney development is not just good for business, it’s good for everyone.

For all partners, a yearly performance review recognizes accomplishments and sets goals to build on them. Associates complete a self-evaluation and are reviewed annually by supervising attorneys. Then a professional development plan (“Path to Success”) is used to set goals. Our Associates use this plan to guide their career goals and identify areas for professional, and personal, development. We’re not just checking billable hours. We focus on communication skills, professional judgment, collaborative efforts, and a commitment to the firm culture.

Finding the leader in everyone.

There’s an expectation that everyone at Much has the ability to lead. The firm's Leadership Training Institute seeks to develop and discover an individual’s unique leadership capabilities and style. We encourage a culture of leadership, across all disciplines and levels of experience. And we know that our firm is more inclusive and a better place to work when we invest in everyone’s growth.

Leadership development inside and outside the firm.

We buck tradition at Much. Our Apprentice Program is an innovative alternative to the standard summer associate program. Highly competitive, the Apprentice Program is focused on the hands-on training and development of the best and brightest law school graduates. One or two first-year lawyers are selected for a 12-month program that provides training in all practice areas as well as mentoring from some of the firms’ most accomplished attorneys. It’s an opportunity to explore the legal world and find your place in it.

Apprentices learn about the practice of law through shadowing experienced attorneys; contributing to client matters, participating in client conferences and practice group meetings; performing pro bono legal work; and working with mentors. Participants also take part in the Illinois Commission on Professionalism Mentorship Program.

Continuing education.

Our legal seminars and CLE training programs help to hone the legal skills of our attorneys and clients. We are an Illinois Accredited MCLE provider and typically offer more than 20 training programs per year; a combination of in-house courses as well as free seminars for clients and the general business community.
