Marissa Downs and Karyn Grice Receive 2016 David T. Brown Community Service Award
Much Shelist announced that Marissa Downs, an associate in the firm's Litigation & Dispute Resolution practice group, and Karyn Grice, secretarial supervisor, received the 2016 David T. Brown Community Service Award. Established to honor firm chairman David T. Brown and his lifelong commitment to social responsibility, the annual award honors one attorney and one staff member for their personal dedication to community service. The award includes a monetary donation to each recipient’s charitable organization of choice.
Downs was honored for her work with Lakeview Pantry, one of Chicago's largest and longest-operating food pantries. She is president of the organization's Young Leaders Board (YLB), which focuses its efforts on fundraising, volunteering and supporting the Pantry and its clients. The YLB also plans Lakeview Pantry's large annual event, the Eliminate Hunger Social.
Karyn Grice was recognized for her involvement with Direct Effect Charities, a charitable foundation committed to raising awareness of how volunteers can make a difference in the lives of those in need. With Grice’s leadership, Much Shelist attorneys and staff contribute time and financial resources to the annual Letters to Santa program, a collaboration between Direct Effect Charities and the Chicago Public Schools to provide children in need with holiday gifts.
“We are thrilled to recognize Marissa’s and Karyn's commitment to service,” said Brown. “They exemplify our firm’s dedication to social responsibility and the communities in which we live and work. Their advocacy and fundraising efforts are truly inspiring, and I am proud to call them colleagues.”
