Celebrating 50 years of Much.

The year 2020 marks Much's 50th anniversary, and when we look back on the past five decades, we couldn't be more proud. We've grown from two partners to nearly 100 attorneys, all carrying on the tradition of legal excellence and client service that was so important to our founders.

Over the course of our history, Much attorneys have guided companies through record-breaking transactions, upheld clients' business rights in front of the Illinois Supreme Court, closed the sale on the most expensive residential real estate purchase in Chicago's history, registered thousands of patents and trademarks worldwide, and so much more.

Much attorneys and staff will spend our 50th anniversary year doing what we do best. We'll provide top-notch legal services to our clients. We'll continue developing the collaborative and inclusive culture that we value so much. We'll give back to our community and roll up our sleeves to help others.

We're glad you're here to join us in celebrating 50 years of Much.

Much 50 Years

"Since 1970, Much has placed great value on building relationships – both business and personal. We’re more than just lawyers. In fact, many clients think of us as friends. I’m proud that five decades later, our attorneys are still making meaningful and lasting connections that extend well beyond the boardroom."

- Morrie Much, Founding Partner

We’re proud of our history.

Looking back 50 years, our founding partners were young attorneys determined to practice law differently. After Morrie Much accepted an offer to take ownership of an established real estate firm, he turned to a trusted friend and fellow attorney, Michael Shelist, to handle his clients’ estates and trusts.

These visionaries shared a similar approach to practicing law and soon decided to make their partnership official. On August 1, 1970, Much Shelist opened on West Madison Street in downtown Chicago. From there, the firm grew as Morrie and Michael hired five attorneys to meet the needs of their expanding client base.

Our founding partners’ legacy of contributing to the success of their clients, building a firm culture like no other and maintaining a talented, performance-driven team continues to this day.
