AT WORK

Neal Goldstein is a corporate lawyer who specializes in health care and closely held businesses. Neal regularly counsels physician group practices on health care business issues, fraud and abuse, and consolidation. He also represents companies doing business in health care, manufacturing, distribution and real estate. For those companies, Neal provides counsel on mergers and acquisitions, succession planning, ownership structuring, and general corporate law and business matters.

A certified public accountant, Neal was in the audit department of a large Chicago-based accounting firm prior to becoming an attorney.

IN THE PROFESSION

Neal was named one of the country’s “Outstanding Physician Practice Lawyers” by Nightingale’s Healthcare News. In addition, he was named an Illinois Super Lawyer in 2007 and has been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the areas of health law and closely and privately held business law (2005-2008).

A guest lecturer at Loyola University Chicago School of Law's Institute for Health Law on the topic of "Federal Physician Self-Referral Law and Anti-Kickback Statute," Neal is a regular speaker on issues relating to health care and business law, including:

  • "Re-engineering Private Practice Business Strategies to Deal with Declining Reimbursement and Increasing Costs," Scientific Exhibit, Annual American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons

Neal served as a peer reviewer for The Law of Medical Practice in Illinois (a book in the Illinois Practice Library series) and has authored a variety of articles, including "Getting Started with Succession Planning" for the Lake County Business Journal and "On Call Requirements under New EMTALA Rule" and "Physicians Diversify through Ancillary Services" for Chicago Hospital News.

He is also a member of the American Health Lawyers Association.

IN THE COMMUNITY

Neal serves on the board of directors of Mount Sinai Hospital and Schwab Rehabilitation Hospital in Chicago. He also provides pro bono legal services through the Center for Disability and Elder Law.
