AT WORK

David T. Brown, Chair of the Management Committee, is actively involved in strategic planning and leadership development for the firm.

David is an experienced transactional lawyer who serves the firm's clients as a legal and business counselor in a wide range of matters. He acts as advisor to closely held businesses in connection with their everyday legal and business issues, including the sale and acquisition of assets, private placement of debt and equity, and tax and entity structure.

David represents institutional lenders in virtually all aspects of commercial real estate and corporate loan transactions. He also represents a number of commercial real estate firms, assisting them with the acquisition, development and financing of real estate projects and advising them on routinely encountered legal and business issues.

IN THE PROFESSION

David is a regular speaker on a broad range of topics, including lending, taxation, business succession and limited liability companies.

He is a member of the American, Illinois and Chicago Bar Associations, the Mortgage Bankers' Association of America, the Illinois Mortgage Bankers' Association, the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Illinois Certified Public Accountants Society and the Chicagoland Chapter of the Young Presidents' Organization.

In 2005, 2006 and 2007, David was designated an Illinois Super Lawyer, an honor given to the top 5% of attorneys in the state. He has also been recognized by the Leading Lawyers Network as a top Illinois lawyer in the area of commercial real estate (2005-2008).

IN THE COMMUNITY

David is an active Board member of the Jewish United Fund/Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago. He served as the End of Year Chairman for the JUF’s 2004 Campaign and holds that position again in 2008. As Chair of the Government Affairs Committee, he presents the JUF’s position on important policy issues to government officials in Washington, D.C. and Springfield, IL. He has also held multiple positions within the JUF's Young Leadership Division (including past service as President) and is the recipient of the JUF’s Young Leadership Award. In addition, David is active in AIPAC and is a regular visitor to Israel.

David has held many leadership positions within the American Jewish Congress. He has served on its Governing Council and as Chair of its Chicago Volunteer Legal Services-affiliated Legal Clinic.

David is a founding member and officer of the ID8 Fund, a not-for-profit organization committed to funding and developing other early stage not-for-profit entities, including its first project, KidsGiving2Kids.org. He also volunteers his time as a reading mentor for first graders in a Chicago Public School. David has run in the Chicago Marathon six times on behalf of the American Liver Foundation (ALF), for which he has served as Chair of the Steering Committee.
