Much Shelist Welcomes Eight Former Weinberg Richmond Attorneys
Combined Strengths Yield Largest Real Estate Group among Mid-Sized Chicago-Based Law Firms
CHICAGO – August 29, 2006 – Chicago-based Much Shelist announced today that Arnold Weinberg, Harold S. Dembo and Steven L. DeGraff, together with five other attorneys, have agreed to become part of the firm effective Sept. 5. A group of seven paralegals and support staff will accompany them, bringing the total team joining Much Shelist to 15.
The move brings Much Shelist’s total real estate practice group to 33 attorneys, the largest among mid-sized Chicago-based law firms. Weinberg, Dembo and DeGraff, along with attorneys Sonja R. Johnson and Jonathan D. Sherman, will join the Much Shelist Real Estate practice group. Gary L. Auerbach and Brad A. Levin will join the Business & Finance practice group, and Jeffrey H. Bunn will join the Litigation practice group.
The eight attorneys and seven staff members were formerly with Weinberg Richmond LLP, a 60-year-old real estate boutique that announced its dissolution in June. Weinberg, Dembo and DeGraff were subsequently pursued by a large number of firms before deciding to join Much Shelist as principals.
“These additions mark significant growth for our already robust hourly practice,” said David T. Brown, Chair of the Much Shelist Management Committee. “We are excited to have one of the finest real estate teams in the Chicagoland area join our firm, while also adding a terrific litigator and two fine corporate transactional attorneys. This opportunity reflects our continuing efforts to offer clients high-quality business-focused legal counsel and an increasingly appealing alternative to larger firms.”
Weinberg noted: “This move allows us to continue providing our clients with all the advantages of a highly focused real estate boutique, combined with the resources of a larger, full-service firm. As we literally move our team across the street to Much Shelist, joining the firm feels very easy to us on many levels due to the incredible cultural and business fit.”
Weinberg also noted that the transition will be seamless for his team’s clients, who will have access to Much Shelist’s broad service offerings, including securities work, intellectual property protection, labor and employment counsel and estate planning.
Mitchell S. Roth, a member of the Much Shelist Management Committee and Chair of the firm’s Lateral Task Force, added: “The addition of these highly sought-after attorneys to our team reflects our ability to attract and retain outstanding lateral talent, and is a testament to our people, our culture and our approach to serving clients. We are finding that our cost-effective, results-oriented service model, combined with our inviting, collegial culture, offers an attractive alternative for business-savvy attorneys who seek an environment where they can prosper and focus on their clients’ needs.”
